Disturbing video

Hi,

If you haven't already, you should be subscribed to Personal Failure's excellent blog; Forever in Hell - it's seriously badass.

However, I'm going to link to it specifically today because the story that she talks about gave me a knot in my stomach and I feel like I have to do something or I'll punch the next person I see.

In Which I Interrupt the Previous Post for Human Rights

Do not follow this link unless you have a strong stomach. The embedded video shows a savage assault on a gay man being beaten half to death outside his own home by two thugs.

What you can do...

Hate Crime Bill - if you are able, please support this bill. This is where prejudice, ignorance and bigotry lead to and it needs to stop. Right now.

Thanks,

Off-topic: I received your message on wearesmrt, but I'm unable to reply because you have "receive private messages" turned off.

I was just going to talk HK films with you, and felt like Wayne's blog was *probably* not the best place for it. :-)

Hey man, I've received PMs before, so I'm not sure why it's not working - I'll speak to Mac...

In the meantime - I started a thread for just such a discussion, here;

Hey ExPatMatt,

good to see you blogging. It looks like you got what you wanted, the Hate crime bill passed I believe.

I do believe it is wrong to murder someone because of a sin issue. It is not right to beat up people because they are gay.

I also think it is impossible for a jury to read the mind of someone who peacefully speaks out against homosexuality and say they are motivated by hate.

ExPatMatt said...

Chris,

"I do believe it is wrong to murder someone because of a sin issue".

How about; "I do believe it is wrong to murder someone" instead? Sin or no sin, murdering someone is wrong, right?!

"It is not right to beat up people because they are gay".

For possibly the first time, you and I are in total agreement (it must be the End Times!).

"...peacefully speaks out against homosexuality".

That's not a crime, so you'd never be tried for 'hate crime' for it.

If you kick someone in the teeth while they're lying on the floor with cracked ribs and a ruptured spleen while shouting 'die faggot!' at them; that's a crime - first and foremost - and is clearly motivated by bigoted hatred. People like that should be made example of for their violent bigotry so that more people get the message that it's not OK to commit crimes against people based on their skin colour, sexuality, religious beliefs or any other facet of their character.

I would have hope that everyone would have agreed with that - but apparently there's still resistance to bills like this one!

Cheers,

Why don't they allow personal messages on blogger!? Or do they..and it's a secret that I obviously don't know...??

WELL this has NOTHING to do with the post. Kind of random. I get these really happy moments..where I wanna hug everyone and shout to the world that I love people!!!!!!!! Weird I know. But, I'm usually 99.9% of the time am a happy person.

(Ok..now for the embarrassing moment..for all to see. LOVERLY! Yes I made up that word!!)

I only wanted to say to you Mr. Matt that I consider you a dear friend! And that you need to write a new post. And that I wish you would visit my blog more often as a return favor. (Return favor..because I visit your blog constantly!! And am disappointed in you since you have not posted in a while!! WHY!!!?? Yes, I'm giving you a hard time about it!! Mwahaha!!)

OK! TTYL!! (TALK TO YOU LATER-but you knew that!!)

Your blogging friend,

Lissie

PS. Hello all!! If you wish to be my friend just know-I talk too much.

PS. LACK OF SLEEP DOES THINGS TO YOU!! LIKE LIKE LIKE MAKE PUFFY BAGS UNDER YOUR EYES! OR MAKE YOU REALLY HYPER!! OR MAKE YOU REALLY DEPRESSED! OR MAKE YOU REALLY HAPPY!

PS. HEY if disappointed is spelled wrong it's because I spelled checked it and didn't know which one was the correct one. Ha HA..wow..I need sleep. Yeah. I only sleep on weekends. I stay up during the week!

ExPatMatt said...

Lissie,

I will write a new blog posting some time this weekend (if i get the chance!), is there anything in particular you would like me to discuss or write about?

And I'm on my way to your blog right now...

Lissie Darcy said...

Hey Mr. Matt!

Only if you get the chance, of course!

Well you don't have to write about this if you'd rather not but how about writing about what you do in your everyday life. (I mean as opposed to the blogging life. :)

A break from debating and stuff. Think-shared space! All your friends don't know what you do everyday. (Or maybe they do and I don't haha)

Or perhaps you have a favorite book and or movie that we had no idea about? (If it's Pride and Prejudice no shame man, just admit it!) (I'm teasing)

(:

Thanks for commenting on my blog!!! By the way!!

Hey Mr. Matt

I wanted to give you a heads up. Currently I'm working on 18 posts for my blog right now. (I've been meaning to write for a long time about MEANINGFUL things (*hem* worldview wise) but just haven't had the time.) one of the posts is going to be about the problem of evil and I'm going to give 3 answers to the problem of evil. Didn't know if ya'd be interested..but just incase :)

Oh and I don't mind if anyone else ends up coming and visiting either for that post or just randomly, I just want to ask if you'd keep the comments clean. And level headed please. But, by all means challenge me on my thinking!! I'm always up for a debate. I'm not the best at it, and since I'm young I want to practice anyways. So, don't think I don't want you to challenge my thinking.

Anyways! That was it!!

Hello Lissie,

We courted :)...as in when we came together we meant it in aim of seeing if we were right for marriage and not a fleeting "having a good time, test you out" type of date.

We sought God and He led us together...Praise Him!

One recommendation though (Assuming you aren't married). Don't have a long engagement when you see a lot of your fiance/fiancee. It is hard, it would be much better to court for longer until able to marry.

Your brother in Christ,

Daniel

Lissie,

You do whatever you feel is right when the time comes, ok?

Da Bomb,

Very happy to hear that you've got a date for your nuptials - lots of planning to do before then I imagine!

I long-distance (UK -> Canada) dated my girlfriend for almost 2 years before moving here, that was hard!

Cheers,

Lissie Darcy said...

Hey Daniel,

That's great! It's so wonderful to hear about other people's courtship stories. Dad and Mom have been convicted (over the years) that courtship is the way to go. And now I'm 15 1/2 (yes every fraction counts..still.) and purity and coursthip has become a conviction of mine too! I agree about not having a long engagement. (My parents and I have talked about that too.)

And um yeah you are right I'm not married. Hehe. That's a good thing!! For right now!

Mr. Matt: Thanks for the tip but I can't do anything based on mere "Feelings". My heart is deceitful. You know how people say, "Follow your heart" well that's wrong. Our hearts are sinful. We have to LEAD our heart.

Thanks Daniel for sharing with me!

Love in Christ,

Lissise

I bet!
Though I don't know your stance on pre-marital sex. For Esther and I we believe it is to be saved for marriage.
So seeing each other heaps is hard in its own way also! LOL.

Though there are strengths to long engagements as well.

Lissie, I will rephrase what Matt said because there is some truth to what he has said here:
You do whatever you feel is right when the time comes, ok?

Do whatever God, you, your fiance, and your family thinks is best when the time comes. Seek and pray.

We have to LEAD our heart.

Very true. True love is commitment and not whimsical feelings.
Though with commitment comes feelings. (Feelings are good, but they are not the whole story).

cheers,

Dan

P.S. Matt, hope you don't mind the courting talk on your thread! :)

Thanks Daniel :)

Guys,

Apologies for my lack of clarity.

I didn't mean to imply that you should just do whatever you feel like doing. I meant that you should do what you feel is right. The emphasis is on the 'you', not on the 'feel'.

And by this I include whatever inputs feed into your decision making, including; your study of the Bible, the advice of your parents, the advice of your close friends etc.

All of this informs the decisions you make, but it is still you that makes the decision.

And, of course, by 'feel' I mean 'think' - I was trying to be poetic!

[The following may not be safe for minors...]

Da Bomb,

My girlfriend and I had both had multiple partners before we even met and neither of us had any problem with that.

Sexual compatibility is very important in establishing and maintaining a healthy relationship, in my opinion, and we have no hang-ups about pre-maritals at all; why would we?

Of course, I understand your position, Biblically, but I've seen a number of Christian couples get married very young and very quickly - essentially because they couldn't wait any longer to have sex!

There are potential downsides to taking this route if your head's not in the right place.

Hey ya Matt,

Some non-christians do (as far as I know). Marriage is a big commitment and sex is very intimate so it follows by logic that we could/should reserve ourselves for our marriage partner instead of "trying" everyone out.

There are potential downsides to taking this route if your head's not in the right place.

There is a lot of truth to what you say here. Getting married only because you cannot control yourself is not a good motive "by itself" I believe.
Though in the Bible it says that it is better to marry than to burn with passion. For a Christian if you burn with passion and not get married then we run the risk of falling into sin.

cheers

Hey, it's not like I was trying out and returning couches or something! ;-)

The important thing is, from my perspective, there is nothing sinful about sex with a consenting partner.

But, each to their own, I guess!
